A few nights ago, Jin and I (along with the husbands) had the privilege of feasting at the soft opening of Makan, a new Taiwanese and Korean comfort food inspired restaurant set to open Thursday, July 24, 2014 in Decatur with Chef George Yu (from the Ecco kitchen) at the helm.
It was a memorable night of celebrating the 100s of hours required to bring a restaurant to life with the solid underpinning of “make my mama proud or die trying.”
And let me tell you, the energy in the room was something special. The mamas, babas, sisters, bebes, and friends could not have felt any prouder.
We were pleased as punch to be included as childhood friends of Dami, the handsome dude who will be running the front of house.
You may have trouble believing four average sized adults could consume the amount of food photographed below, but we couldn’t very well skip around the restaurant photographing other people’s food, now could we?
So, we took one for the team and ordered a good percentage of the menu so you, friends, could have the greatest collection of Makan food-porn as we could curate (whoops, I said porn! Sorry, mom!). Enjoy! 😉
Over all, we had a very enjoyable night eating and drinking (favorite cocktail: There’s Something About Maggie) and hope you will stop by and check out what they are doing at Makan! Please keep in mind, it may take a few weeks to hammer out the perfect menu and to get the “machine” humming, but that goes without saying for a brand new restaurant.
