A few nights ago, Jin and I (along with the husbands) had the privilege of feasting at the soft opening of Makan, a new Taiwanese and Korean comfort food inspired restaurant set to open Thursday, July 24, 2014 in Decatur with Chef George Yu (from the Ecco kitchen) at the helm. [Read more…]

Laundry – cleaning – keeping dependents alive – other post vacation activities – EATING: No matter how chaotic life may be, one must feed the vessel that participates in life’s chaotic dance party. Can I get a witness?
And so, I present to you Gato Arigato, a pop up ramen shop in Candler Park for your feasting pleasure. [Read more…]
Well, sort of! Jin is off on a girls trip to New Orleans, where I hope she will shamelessly post photos of her food to inspire (make me jealous), and our family is about to vacay it up in Amelia Island and Tampa, FL.
I must say, it will be nice to get away from my stacks of boxes that I could swear have judge-y eyes, though everyone with small children would hesitate to call it a vacation. Ha!
Before I run off to my beachy sun set, here is a shout out to the guys who helped us move- Thanks guys! Would highly recommend them to anyone!
Please leave any tips in the comments for maximum fun for Jin or me!
As I sit here amongst boxes and mess trying to bang out a post worth reading, I know one thing for a fact: this post is going to be short and sweet (my inner Jin rejoices).
We had a great experience with Motivated Movers, our first time ever using professionals for packing and moving.
Our 3 Bedroom 2 Full bath home was operating pretty slim after a sort/purge/store session, which resulted in a 5’x10′ storage unit of seasonal and non necessity items. Even our attic and under the house crawl space was practically empty, so it was not much of a surprise when it only took two hours for three guys to pack up our house.
We had an additional one hour worth of packing on our own to do for high security items and tools and such that we needed access to until the last minute.
On the day of the move, the guys arrived early to our storage unit, took care of the stuff there within an hour (lots of boxes and bins plus one shelf and a jogger) and then the rest of load in took two hours at the house.
We moved just a slightly over a mile away, so it only took an additional hour to unload and set up.
Derrick, Jason, Acky, and Michael were really easy to work with, extremely courteous, nice, and FUN. They clearly were veterans of the trade and managed both jobs with speed, and since nothing went missing, broke, or scratched, I’d give them two thumbs up for a job well done.
Moving is truly a most dreaded and grueling task. Motivated Movers made it less so by doing it all and with a smile and personality.
They have this internal bonus system based on a positive Kudzu.com review, but try as I may, I could not post my glowing remarks on their website. Methinks they did not care for my yahoo email account because it did not have any contacts filled in. It kept rejecting my submission, and call me a conspiracy theorist, but I think its because kudzu wanted me to use another account with more data to mine.
So, I did one better and dedicated this post to them–I appreciated the whole process of reserving the services with Jeff through getting packed up and moved with a great group of guys. Thanks for all of your help Motivated Movers!
Packing: $155/hour for three packers with a three hour minimum (total two hours for our packing)
Moving: $155/hour for three movers with a three hour mimimum (total four hours for our move)
*We had a few extra charges for tape and packing paper, but provided all the boxes and some packing materials.
Its not every day that a patient asks to take a picture with the dentist after having three cracked fillings repaired, but John is never one to hide his feelings when he is exceptionally happy.
John’s 469 word love fest combined with his goofy smile and thumbs up (can’t blame it all on the juice, dear) seems a bit silly and makes you think, “C’mon. Theres no reason to get so mushy over decent chair side manners and gratitude that you didn’t get fleeced by the dentist,” but why the heck not? Many have dedicated internet words to lesser causes. Earlier this week, I scooped Jin up from work in my Leaf and we had a lovely lunch date at Ssam Burger. While we did not have an opportunity to visit when the original owners were flipping the Asian patties, we are happy to report the restaurant is doing well under new management (as of March 2014). A standard practice in selling residential homes is to remove personal photos from frames to give home shoppers the opportunity to imagine their own special moments in those frames. Often times, its easier to hide away the frames all together rather than deal with refilling them with something innocuous.
In our case, we found the blank frames showing the backing to fit in with the over all color scheme of the built in bookcase, but had the issue of appearing as if we had forgotten to fill the frames. The solution? Show case the backing in an intentional way by applying some string art! Before I get to the DIY, here is a little bit of background story behind our adventures in decoration…
Birthday weekend is nearly upon me and I had a last minute pamper/style appointment with the so, so dear and mega talented Lloyd Holton! I’m “all set” for 4 days of great hair, at the very least.
This handsome man is brilliant with color and has cut my giant mass of unruly Asian hair for years (John, too!). It’s a bit of a hike from our in town dwelling, but so worth it (as you can obviously see from my crazy eyes)!

$85 for a cut/style appointment
Day 1: I’m all pinned up and loving the drama-everyone needs a lil bit of pouf to whip out their inner Texan. I may have two stuffed into that business. Days 2-4 will be the great and glorious unraveling. Update to come! 😉
